Steel Perforated Ceiling Panel Specifications: What Every Architect Should Request

A complete ceiling tile specification covers more than the visual character of the panel. Panel dimensions, finish standard, grid compatibility, acoustic performance, and light output all need to be confirmed before the order is placed. This post sets out the full specification framework for a VEIL custom-perforated steel ceiling panel — every parameter, in order.

Panel format and dimensions

Standard VEIL panel: 596 × 1196mm, with an outer width of 688.5mm. This format is sized to drop into a standard 600×1200 metric suspended ceiling grid. For imperial grid projects, the same panel is compatible with a 2’×4′ (24×48 inch) grid system.

The panel format is standardised — it does not vary by perforation pattern or colour. Every VEIL panel ships in this format, regardless of the design configuration.

Structural frame

VEIL uses the same engineered frame as NOWN’s Vapor ceiling system. The frame is laser-cut steel, powder-coated to specification. The shared frame with Vapor means contractors already familiar with Vapor installation will recognise the panel behaviour in the grid. No unfamiliar hardware. No specialist mounting.

Finish specification

Material: steel. Finish: RAL K5 powder coat. Default: Anthracite Grey 7016 Semi-Matt. Any RAL K5 colour available — specified in VEIL Studio before manufacture. Sheen options available (confirm at time of specification).

Acoustic option

Optional aSoft acoustic backing, available as face or backer configuration. Specified in VEIL Studio during the design session and integrated at manufacture. No site application. Confirm NRC requirements with the acoustic consultant before specifying — the perforation density of the panel affects the acoustic performance in combination with the aSoft backing.

Backlighting option

Optional integrated backlighting: 2700K–6000K colour temperature, three output levels — 25W, 45W, 65W. Specified in VEIL Studio and integrated at manufacture. Confirm electrical connection requirements with the M&E consultant before specifying.

All options are specified in VEIL Studio and reflected in the DXF and quote output. Built in days. Shipped in weeks. The hard work happens in our factory. The simple part is yours.
