Integrating light into a perforated metal ceiling is not a new idea — but the process has traditionally been complex. A standard perforated tile. A separate lighting contractor. A bespoke integration detail. VEIL removes that complexity. VEIL’s optional integrated backlighting is specified in VEIL Studio, our online design tool, and engineered into the panel at manufacture. Not clipped on. Not retrofitted. Built in.
What backlighting options does VEIL offer?
VEIL’s integrated backlighting is available in three output levels: 25W, 45W, and 65W. The colour temperature range runs from 2700K (warm white, hospitality and residential-adjacent) to 6000K (cool white, office and clinical). The full range sits between 2700K and 6000K, so any standard architectural lighting specification can be matched.
Output level is determined by the application. 25W is appropriate for ambient or feature lighting in lower-lux environments. 45W suits general commercial and retail. 65W handles higher ambient light requirements or larger panel configurations.
How does backlighting interact with the perforation pattern?
This is the design question. The perforations in a VEIL panel are the apertures through which the backlight is visible. Denser perforations produce a more diffuse, glowing effect — the individual holes are small but numerous, and the panel reads as a luminous surface. Sparser perforations produce a more punctuated effect — distinct points of light against the metal face.
VEIL Studio’s real-time preview lets you assess the visual character of the backlit panel before generating the DXF. Adjust the perforation parameters — frequency, pitch, size — and evaluate the result. The preview is the specification. What you see is what gets made.
What are the typical applications?
Hospitality and reception areas where a warm, atmospheric ceiling is part of the design brief. Retail environments where product lighting needs a designed ceiling plane to work against. Office feature ceilings where acoustic performance and ambient light need to come from the same surface. VEIL delivers all three from a single panel specification.
Backlighting and aSoft acoustic backing can be combined — specify both in VEIL Studio. The panel arrives crated with both integrated. Drops into any standard 600×1200 metric or 2’×4′ imperial ceiling grid. Drawn in minutes. Made in days. Shipped in weeks. The simple part is yours.
