Carbon: A Deep, Ashy Tone Mapping Material and Form

Carbon is a dark, ashy grey tone used on the SoftSound® acoustic material — one shaped by carbon stone, charcoal dust, and the layered shading of architectural sketch. When applied to SoftSound®, the color picks up natural fiber texture, matte finish and expressive depth.

Material & System in One

SoftSound® is a PET acoustic material with up to 60% recycled content. Its felt-like surface gives Carbon a soft grain and subtle variation.

The SoftGrid® TRELLA system uses SoftSound® in a lattice of intersecting linear baffles, creating an acoustic trellis overhead — airy in structure, strong in shadow, bold in texture.

Form Meets Tone

In SoftGrid® TRELLA, Carbon finds its voice. The intersecting baffles fold and cross-cut, casting soft gradations of tone across the ceiling plane. Light falls, shadows deepen, the material reads like a sectional drawing become physical.

Why This Works in Interiors

For interior architecture, commercial interiors, acoustic specification, and modern construction:

  • Carbon’s ashy grey complements concrete, steel, wood, glazing.

  • SoftSound® brings acoustic performance + recycled content.

  • The TRELLA system provides modular, field-trimmable, high-access structure — ideal for offices, conference rooms, hospitality zones.
The result: a ceiling system that is material-rich, design-intentional, and acoustically capable.
