DONN Grid, Spring Tee, Concealed Grid: Which Ceiling Systems Are Compatible With VEIL?

Ceiling grid systems have more variety than most architects encounter in day-to-day specification. DONN, Armstrong, Chicago Metallic, Rockfon, and dozens of regional equivalents — all built on the same basic suspended rail principle, but with different rail profiles, flange geometries, and proprietary connection details. This post maps VEIL’s compatibility across the main system types.
Exposed T-bar grids (standard)
Exposed T-bar is the most common commercial ceiling grid system. The T-shaped rail is visible below the ceiling plane; tiles rest on the top flanges of the T. DONN DX, Armstrong Prelude, and equivalent systems are all standard T-bar grids in 600×1200 metric and 2’×4′ imperial modules.
VEIL is compatible with all standard exposed T-bar systems in both modules. The 596 × 1196mm panel format drops into a 600×1200mm or 2’×4′ T-bar grid opening with standard clearance. Standard mounting hardware. No modifications.
Spring tee grids
Spring tee grids use a clip or spring mechanism to secure the panel face to the grid rail, rather than relying on gravity alone. This is used in applications where panels need to be restrained against air pressure differentials — high-velocity HVAC supply zones — or where building codes require positive panel fixing.
VEIL’s compatibility with spring tee systems depends on the specific system. Confirm the spring tee profile and clip geometry with the grid manufacturer before specifying VEIL in a spring tee application. The panel format is standard; the clip interface needs verification.
Concealed grid systems
Concealed grid systems hide the grid rail behind or within the panel — the ceiling presents as a continuous surface without visible grid lines. Concealed systems use clips, kerfed edges, or tongue-and-groove profiles to attach the panel to the concealed rail.
Standard VEIL panels are designed for exposed grid installation. For concealed grid applications, confirm at the specification stage — the panel edge detail may need to be adapted. Contact NOWN directly for concealed grid projects.
Summary: compatible systems
VEIL is compatible as standard with: 600×1200 metric exposed T-bar grids, 2’×4′ imperial exposed T-bar grids, DONN DX-profile and equivalent, Armstrong Prelude and equivalent. Compatibility with spring tee and concealed grid systems should be confirmed at specification. All compatible systems use standard mounting hardware. No field modifications to the panel. The same engineered frame as NOWN’s Vapor system. Dropped in. Done.
